Chicken Tikka is one of the most ordered and popular tandoori appetizer. Chunks of juicy chicken marinated in a mixture of curd, spices, mustard oil and cooked in a tandoor or in an Oven. A lot of recipes claim to make chicken tikka without an oven in a pan. Yes, you can cook it but the end dish tastes a lot different.
Chiken Tikka is my favourite too and its my go to appetizer as it can be prepared very quickly and easily. The color of home made Chicken Tikka is not as red as we find it in restaurants as they tend to add food coloring to the marinade. We totally avoid using any kind of artificial food coloring agents to our recipes.
Lets quickly note down the ingredients.
- Boneless Chicken cut into cubes. Around 450 gms.
- 1 cup Curd or 200 ml
- 1 tsp Mustard oil
- 1 tsp Ginger paste
- 1 tsp Garlic paste
- 2 tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala
- 1/2 tsp Chaat Masala
- 1/2 tsp Pepper Powder
- 1 tsp Dried and Crushed Kasuri Methi.
- 1/4 Nutmeg Powder.
- Salt as per taste.
In a mixing bowl add all the ingredients and marinate the chicken for around 30 minutes to and hour. You can marinate it overnight too for that additional flavor. But 30 minutes does the job of you are in a hurry.
Now place the marinated chicken pieces in a greased tray and cook it in the oven for around 30 minutes at 180°c or till the chicken pieces are well cooked. You can apply butter a couple of times to make up for the lost moisture at the time of grilling.
The end dish should look like this
You can garnish it with lemon and a quick salad prepared with onions and tomatoes and serve with fresh mint chutney. Do try this recipe and leave your comments in the comments section below.
