Lockdown is the new normal these days and like we mentioned in our previous article it is also time time to learn something new, to do something we never did, to enhance our skill set for the coming challenges. As a hobby chef, for me it’s all about learning something new to cook or to know the kitchen and the ingredients a little more better.

So let’s get started and learn how to easily and quickly make the famous 5 Spice Powder mix used in asian cuisine around the globe.

What are the 5 Spices in a 5-Spice Powder Mix?

To make a medium container full of 5 Spice Mix, below spices are used


  • About 5 Star anise
  • 12 – 15 Cloves
  • 1 Stick Cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons Sichuan Peppercorns (Thepal)
  • 2 tablespoons Fennel seeds

How to Make 5 Spice Powder Mix

In a pan, toast all of the above for around 5 minutes till they start giving out a great aroma.

Once it cools down, grind it in a blender into a very fine powder. Empty it into a container. Store in a cool dry place.

Wasn’t it very simple. So use it the next time you crave for the wok tossed 5-Spice Vegetables or Chicken.
